Today just seemed like it could go on and on. I learned so much, that I didn't want it to stop! It started off with me being asked to drop supplies at the various Program Areas. My first stop was the COPE Course. I got to the gate, and asked for permission to enter. The COPE Instructor, Randy told me to come in. This was the first time I had been to the COPE course. I didn't know how cool it is! Randy was explaining how the
High Course made a complete circuit, and after they went around to all three, the kids got to repel down to the ground! Hopefully, I will have some time this summer, that I can go through the course!
Next, I stopped at Gilmore Lodge, and spent some time with the Eco-Squad, Matt and Dani!
They showed me around the Nature Lodge, and told me what the different stuffed animals were. As I was leaving, Program Director Justin showed up. He started asking questions about the one interactive display, and Matt showed him how it worked. It was really neat!
After that, I went to the Handicraft Lodge in Walker Center. I couldn't believe how much STUFF they fit into such a small closet! They were all working so hard organizing and doing their inventory, that I didn't want to bug them, but I KNOW I'll be back! I want to make a belt this summer!
Next, I stopped at the Lake to drop off some garbage bags. Even though they were REALLY busy, the one lifeguard, Cody, took the time to show me the differences between the different life preservers. I didn't know that different vests did different things!
My last stop before supper was down at the Rifle Range. The Shooting Sports Director Ray, showed me around. I had shot the BB Guns when I was in Cub Scouts, but haven't shot anything else since. Ray took the time and showed me the camp's new rifles, and how their scopes worked. Ray explained how he took the time and sighted in EVERY rifle there! It must have taken HOURS!
He then explained all the procedures for the safety of the Rifle Range. Did you know that there has not been one rifle accident in 99 years of Scouting? The safest place to be in the whole camp, is the Rifle and Archery Range! Cool isn't it?
We then had dinner, and more training! I didn't know that we had to know SO much stuff just to work at camp! It gets a little tiring sometimes, but I always learn something new!
Finally, we ended up back down in Heritage Circle. PD Justin told us yesterday, that each patrol had to come up with, and act in 2 different skits tonight! The Camp Director Travis, and a visiting former Staff member named Brian started the campfire with the funniest skit I have ever seen! It is called "Marry the Princess". Basically the 2 guys get forced to act out a play that has 5 different characters, but they only have two people! They kept flip flopping wearing all sorts of different costumes, and crowns!
After that, we had a bunch of other skits and cheers. PD Justin gave an award to Bob Marshall for being the CMR Ultimate Hummer! We played a game earlier in the day, and Bob won it. We had to see who can hum the longest on one breath. It's a lot harder than it looks! One of the last skits was one called "The Lone Riders". It is my favorite skit ever!
Anyway, we are finishing up the tents tomorrow, and I need some sleep! Cya tomorrow!
